Intombi yeNtandane: Meet maskandi’s youngest queen

By Bahle Mkhize

Zimbili Chamane, the daughter of seasoned musician Intandane, grew up listening to her father’s and siblings’ music.

Chamane, known as Intombi yeNtandane in the entertainment circles, is a new kid on the block and is set to take this industry by storm.

The Grade 7 budding maskandi star from C section in Illovo near Manzimtoti in the South of Durban recently launched her debut album, titled Ngiyabonga baba.

She said she drew her inspiration from her siblings who also took after her father.

Speaking in the presence of her father, Zimbili said: “All my siblings, Indodakazi yeNtandane and Abafana Bentandane are maskandi musicians.

“I was told that my father used to sing with the legendary group, Soul Brothers.

“I guess we took it from him because the entire family is into music.”

She said she has always been surrounded by music throughout her life.

“I have released an EP titled Ngiyabonga baba. I wrote all three songs and then my father produced them.

“This EP is already gaining momentum across community radio stations and at Maskandi events,” she added.

Zimbili also revealed that she is planning to release a full album next year.

“I wanted to release a full album before the end of this year but my father stopped me.

“He said I need to concentrate more on my school work. But once we close the schools I will have more time to focus on my music.”

Her father, Ntandane described his daughter as a shy but intelligent child.

“She’s shy but very focused. Since birth she’s always loved music and I just encumbered her to follow her heart.

“I’m glad that she’s proven to be talented. But I still encourage her to concentrate on her school work so that she doesn’t struggle later in life,” he said.

The Purpose learned that Intombi yeNtandane has, on numerous occasions, shared a stage with maskandi heavyweights in music like Khuzani, Thokozani Langa and many others.
