Maskandi music is standing a chance to win uKhozi FM song of the year once again.
This genre has risen from ashes and caused havoc in the past years on uKhozi FM top 10.
According to uKhozi FM, as it stands Masethembe “Skweletu” Chiliza from uMzimkhulu is leading the pack with a hit track titled Inja Endlini.
Surprisingly, another maskandi star from Midllovo, Sibonelo “Thwasa Lekhansela” Majola is on the second spot with Awungondli hit song. Recently, Thwasa was performing and canvassing for votes at Asiphephe Music Festival at Malukazi near uMlaza.
“This is an opportunity to vote for your own. I reside here in Malukazi now. Your vote is vital make it count. I urge you to vote,” he said.
Skweletu quoted on media saying his song is big.
“My song is big and people love it. I am excited by the latest development. It’s a good indication that I might win this competition. If I don’t win, I’ll be fine with the results,” he said.
In 2017 Mroza Fakude paved the way and made history as the first maskandi artist to win the prestigious SABC song of the year with hit track, Van Damme.
Three years later budding maskandi singer Ntencane was declared the winner of uKhozi FM with Wawuthembeni song. However, the song of the year announcement was halted by a court interdict on December 31.
Khuzani Mpungose became the latest maskandi artist to win in 2020.
His song titled Ijele featuring Luve Dubazane received 900 000 votes.
Voting line for uKhozi FM song of the year award closes at 12 am on December 31.
