Former ANC and state president Jacob Zuma has been released on medical parole. The Department of Correctional Services announced on Sunday that Zuma had been found eligible for parole.
In a statement, the department wrote: “Medical parole’s eligibility for Mr. Zuma is impelled by a medical report received by the Department of Correctional Services.
“Apart from being terminally ill and physically incapacitated, inmates suffering from an illness that severely limits their daily activity or self-care can also be considered for medical parole.
“He must comply with [a] specific set of conditions and will be subjected to supervision until his sentence expires.”

The department also stressed that this was not a specific privilege afforded only to Zuma. It said all offenders are eligible owing to proper protocol.
Zuma had served just under two months of his 15-month sentence after he was found guilty of breaching the constitutuion.
