Babes Wodumo’s health status raises concerns amidst event absences
The life of renowned singer Bongekile “Babes Wodumo” Simelane has been shrouded in uncertainty as she finds herself in and out of hospitals.
A recent report by Isolezwe reveals that the artist failed to fulfil several scheduled appearances in Durban.
These include the highly anticipated Cotton Fest at Hollywoodbets Kings Park Stadium and Fact Durban Rocks at People’s Park.
The spokesperson for Cotton Fest, Melanie Ramjee, confirmed that Babes was unable to attend the event due to “personal reasons,” but did not provide further details.
Sources close to the “Wololo” hitmaker expressed concern over her well-being, sharing that she experienced a heart attack that necessitated urgent hospitalisation.
It appears that Babes has been grappling with various challenges for some time, although the exact nature of her illness remains undisclosed.
Speculation initially arose, suggesting that she may be dealing with mental health issues, exacerbated by her absence from social media platforms.
Rumours have circulated that Babes has relocated from her Westville residence and returned to live with her parents for additional support and care.
However, when questioned about the situation, Babes’ sister and manager, Nondumiso Simelane, refuted claims of her illness. She stated that she is in good health and actively engaged in her music career.
Nondumiso emphasised that Babes has been occupied with the production of two albums – one of her own and another for Mampintsha, her late partner.
She attributed her reduced presence on social media to her intense focus on these projects.
Furthermore, Nondumiso clarified that Babes has taken on a more active role in managing Mampintsha’s businesses, particularly OS Gin and Vodka.
Babes Wodumo in and out of hospital
Despite these reassurances, concerns from event organisers persist. One organiser, Nhlanhla “Sgaqa” Chiliza, accused Nondumiso of deceiving people by accepting payments for performances Babes never intended to fulfil.
The implications of such actions on Babes’ future in the music industry were raised, leaving uncertainty about her livelihood.
Efforts by organisers to retrieve the money paid to Babes have proven challenging, with reports of her house in Westville being inaccessible.
Sgaqa shared frustrations over failed attempts to contact Nondumiso, emphasising the need for clarity and resolution.
Additional organisers attempted to send security guards to Babes’ residence but found it unoccupied.
Three separate sources have confirmed Babes’ frequent hospital visits, accompanied by images of her receiving medical treatment.
