We are being re-introduced to cultural beliefs and practices, since things that were seen as a shame in this day and age are now seen as normal.
Media is now giving us an opportunity to learn our ways as black South Africans. We are now watching shows that are giving us an insight into people’s every day lives in polygamy.
There is a show called Mnakwethu Happily Ever After? This is a continuous show from the previous season which was called Mnakwethu hosted by Musa Mseleku who himself has multiple wives.
This show now focuses on the guests who were wishing to enter into polygamy. Now we see Magaye who has a wife and also a mistress whom he wishes to take as a second wife.
We have learnt that he now has doubts about taking her as a second wife since he once mentioned that it hasn’t come to a stage where he is satisfied about her being his wife.
We also see Dulas who is a ladies man and also a Maskandi artist, he seems quiet confused since he is all over he says something and does the other which has made his first wife and also mother of his children leave him.
He has so much on his plate and seems he can’t handle because his second wife also left him and is now left with his baby mama who he was keeping a secret. He was once attacked on social media by women for being a player and when he had the chance to defend himself he just made things worse and cursed which made things sour for hhim
He has apologised publicly and now recording a song about women and how they should be treated with respect.
Then there is Ngiga who is very humble and loves his family a lot. He has a first wife in KZN and about to have another one in Johannesburg, they practically live together and also have a son together. His life is not that chaotic since both his wives don’t have drama.
His first wife is about to have a second child which excites him the most. He is also an artist and very traditional.
Not forgetting Qondanisa whose life is so dramatic, both his wives always have something to say and they quarrel a lot. His life is quiet interesting since both his wives are independent unlike the other wives who are in polygamy and are not allowed to work.
Qondanisa was recently interrogated by his brother in-laws for announcing in media that he wants to take another wife without telling his wife and family first, they see that as disrespecting his wife and family. They talked about it and he was told traditionally he had to pay a fine which they said would be a live cow.
There is also Simphiwe who failed to keep his polygamy since he lost his first wife Makhosi whom he failed to respect with his fiance Zandile who was bragging about their engagement and her pregnancy to Makhosi.
Zandile has now swallowed her pride seeing she wronged Makhosi and went to her and apologised to her and humbled herself and told her she has lost her baby and broke the engagement. She didn’t want any bad blood between them.
That is not all, the drama still continues on Mnakwethu Happily Ever After? every Wednesday at 20:00 on Mzansi Magic channel 161.
