‘Sgaqa’ shows his softer side as he donates school shoes

NHLANHLA “Sgaqa” Chiliza is known for his dance moves on stage when he performs with DJ Tira’s Amadada Dancers.
But offstage he is a man with a big heart and cares for his community.
As schools open on Monday, Sgaqa donated 50 pairs of school shoes, masks and hand sanitisers to disadvantaged kids from his township, Lamontville, on the south of Durban.
“No kid should ever skip school just because they don’t have shoes, “ says Sgaqa.
“In 2007 we started a community youth centre, Deprived Youth Service and some of the things we do is teach dance.
“We realized some of our students don’t have school shoes and with my partner, Khethukuthula Maphumulo, we would donate our old stuff until the KZN Department of Social Development came in to support our initiative.”
Sgaqa surprised the beneficiaries as he delivered the shoes in a motorbike, going to each kid one one one to avoid having them in one place to collect due to Covid-19 safety fears.
“We are showing people love during the month of love so they can be able to study towards their dreams and hopefully come back and be of help to the community and those behind them.”
As for what Amadada Dancers have in plans for the year, Sgaqa had this to say, “stay tuned, we are shooting somethings people will see on their TV screens soon!”.
