Flowers bring joy and income in Bongiwe’s life

THE love of nature and flowers has inspired Bongiwe Mnyandu who is an ambitious young business woman to start a florist shop.
Bongiwe, who hails from Adams Mission south of Durban, is feeling blessed as Bongie’s Floral Corner business is booming.
The Purpose Magazine learned that Bongiwe has been in business for just three months, but she’s already developed a strong relationship with clients through reliability and quality service.
Speaking to The Purpose Magazine Bongiwe said: “There is nothing that puts a smile on my face more than seeing happy clients. I believe flowers symbolise nature and love.
“People must know the difference among flowers, some people use it in marriage anniversaries, weddings, funerals and proposals.”
As she witnesses Bongie’s Floral Corner growing Bongiwe is now considering starting a nursery at home where she will grow her own flowers.
She feels there is not enough knowledge about the meaning and essence of flowers and their various kinds in the black community. She aims to change that.
“Some black people still have the mentality that sending flowers to your loved one is only for other races. Our duty as black florists is to erase that mentality. I was overwhelmed when my recent client referred me to her friend and her reference kept me going.
“The prices start from R200, depending on the size of the bunch of flowers,” Bongiwe explained.
Bongie’s Floral Corner services include delivery to Durban and surrounding areas.
The Purpose Magazine also learned that Bongiwe is also a fulltime Post Office employee working from Umbumbulu offices.
“Yes I am employed but that doesn’t prohibit my side hustle. At the Post Office we deal with issuing social grants, parcels etc. I love work that makes me interact with people,” Bongiwe explains with a smile.
