DJ Mngadi not regretting leaving ‘cushy’ Ukhozi FM job as his music soars

By Siyamthanda kaNyambane

DJ Mngadi left his job as a technician two years ago to focus on his music production company, Floorspinnar Music Company. And he is now reaping the fruits of his risky sacrifice.

His real name is Sihle Mngadi from KwaMaphumulo in the northern part of Durban in KwaZulu Natal.

DJ Mngadi is currently one of the trending musicians with his recently dropped smash hit, Uthando Lwami on high rotation.

In the song, DJ Mgadi featured the new kids on the block called The Siblings. Uthando Lwami is currently doing well in downloads.

It is also popular on TikTok where people are using it as a background track on their videos and posting their #UthandoLwamiChallenge.

DJ Mngadi also has another single out titled Wena Wedwa in which he features Nomonde.

Speaking to The Purpose Magazine after their trip to Mpumalanga along with the legendary award-winning DJ Tira, Mngadi said the response from the public has been amazing.

“When I left Ukhozi FM to focus on my music, many people thought I was crazy,” he says. Some even thought he had lost his marbles to leave such a cushy job.

“Some people believed someone had bewitched me. But my sacrifice is finally paying off.

“Floorspinnar is all about discovering new talent and taking it to the world. We have managed to do that by discovering Nomonde and The Siblings.

“What I like about them is that they are able to write their own lyrics. It’s very hard to work with people who are only capable of singing but cannot write their own music.

“By being able to write your own music, this means you are standing a chance of making good money in terms of royalties,” said Mngadi.

Uthando Lwami took TikTok by storm when three young women posted the song, dance, and sing along.

The lyrics to the song go, “Njengob’ukhala ngothando lwami, uma ngikunika ngeke (yini) udlale ngalo“.

This, when simply translated means: As you say you want my love if I give it to you, will you not take it for granted.

“The response had been amazing and now our focus is for our song to compete in the song of the year categories across the country.

“The song has the potential to do that and it has proven it in many venues that we have performed that it can make it to the number one spot.

“People must keep sending in those videos of their #UthandoLwamiChallenges. There is more to come from my team. People must watch this space,” said Mngadi.

He further said that he was grateful to DJ Tira who has been there for him since day one for his support.
