“I have pleaded not guilty and there is no going back”. This is what former president, Jacob Zuma said when addressing his followers outside the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Wednesday where he made appearance to face charges against him.

Zuma and a French arms company, Thales are facing 18 counts of corruption, fraud, racketeering and money laundering, of which 16 counts are attached to Zuma.

The case was adjourned to July 19 but there will be some correspondence between the state and Zuma, henceforth. Addressing his followers, he maintained his innocence saying he has always wanted his day in court from the first day after the case was brought to court.

Addressing his supporters, he stated that there is no turning back and maintained that the state has no case.

“The case was dismissed by two Judges, the late Judge Herbert Msimanga and Judge Christopher Nicholson because they believed it was political.”

He said after having been dismissed by the two Judges, it has been brought to court again, after almost 20 years, only because they want his head.

He was praised as a leader who stood for the poor and enforced radical economic transformation and free education.
