Acting industry mourns death of heavyweight producer Shona Ferguson

The South African acting industry is reeling in shock after the passing away of formidable actor and producer, Shona Ferguson of Ferguson Films. The popular actor died on Friday after he was admitted to hospital for Covid-19 related complications.

Shona is the husband of Connie Ferguson with whom he owned Ferguson Films which produces hit drama series The Queen and The River. The 47-year-old played a Robocop-like police boss, Captain Maake in the popular Mzansi Magic telenovela.

A representative from the Ferguson Foundation Conrad Mwaza confirmed the news on Friday. A statement released on behalf of the Ferguson Foundation, said Shona passed away at noon on Friday.

“It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of Mr. Shona Ferguson. He passed away at noon today (Friday, 30 July 2021). Mr. Ferguson’s untimely passing was due to Covid-19 related complications. It was not a heart operation as reported in the media,” the statement reads.

A report carried by Sunday World had claimed that Shona had suffered a heart attack and was due for an operation. The family has asked for privacy during this time.
