Outcry over Makhadzi snub

Aggrieved fans and sympathisers call for a boycott of the South African Music Awards

By SIHLE MKHIZE

“I did submit (my) SAMA nomination forms, but unfortunately maybe I didn’t meet their requirements,” tweeted Makhadzi, whose omission from the popular awards was met with shock. Music lovers and fans came out guns blazing accusing the awards organisers of being selective and selling awards to those who pay bribes. “They did Makhadzi dirty though!!!!” Lerato Kganyago tweeted. Nndavheleseni Windston said they need to award Makhadzi themselves: “Guys, because SAMA is captured, let’s award Makhadzi ourselves here on Twitter by asking her account number and we contribute something… the money we were going to use to buy airtime and vote for her, let’s rather contribute it to her and forget about this SAMA thing”.

Makhadzi’s fans believe that Kokovha album which was released last year is way better than Boity’s 4436 album. Tlhogiie Mabusela asked: “So Makhadzi isn’t nominated for album of the year and Best Dance album when she had the whole country dancing? “SAMAs ain’t s#%t, don’t tell me about no criteria”.

Kamo Marven sympathized with Makhadzi saying that Mampintsha and Babes Wodumo warned you all about these awards and this whole Boity and Makhadzi issue just proves it. Babes Wodumo once snubbed (them) in 2017 with her Wololo album, Cassper Nyovest also faced a similar sitution.
