Bester case postponed to May after short court appearance

Thabo Bester appeared in Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday and his case was postponed to 16 May.
Bester is facing charges including escaping from lawful custody, defeating the ends of justice, violation of a dead body and fraud.
He and his girlfriend Dr Nandipha Magudumana were apprehended in Tanzania last week by Tanzanian authorities.
And were handed over to the South African government. Bester was serving a life sentence when he escaped from prison last year.
They had been on the run since last year after the escape which Dr Magudumana assisted with. Bester had been convicted for rape and murder.
The court heard that Bester has not eaten since his extradition because he fears that his food might be poisoned.
Consequently, he requested his legal team to send him food. He appeared handcuffed both hands and also legs.
He looked calm but a bit camera shy, wearing yellowish Nike tracksuit and Adidas sneakers.
The time argument proceed in court Bester requested to have a “word” but the court denied him saying his lawyer represent him enough.
Bester kept on trying to raising his hand but handcuffs made his movement difficult for him.

In court Bester was accompanied by many heavily armed correctional services officers as well as SAPS.
The Purpose Magazine learnt that Bester is guarded 24 hours in Kgosi Mampuru II prison.
On his next court appearance Bester is expected to appear with accused number one to four including Dr Nandipha.
