The South African flag is flying high internationally after the trio of Zakes Bantwini, Nomcebo Zikode and Wouter Kellerman bagged a Grammy award.
The trio were awarded the Best Global Music Performance for their song Bayethe at the awards ceremony in the USA on Sunday.
Nomcebo Zikode hails from Mpumalanga township in Hammarsdale and Zakes Bantwini was born and bred in kwaMashu in Durban.
Zakes Bantwini took to social media and expressed his excitement and shared some memories.
“It took me 15 years to find my path. I stayed true to myself and my dreams despite all the hardships that presented themselves.
“I have no words to express my emotions and grace that have come over me.
“This moment is owed to my late father and mother. Your efforts, sacrifices and lessons you handed down brought out the very best in me.
“I’m grateful. UNkulu’ nkulu uNumber 1 (God is No. 1),” enthused the Osama singer.
The premier of KwaZulu-Natal Nomusa Dube-Ncube joined the thousands of South Africans who have congratulated the trio.
“By winning this Grammy Award, Zakes, Nomcebo and Kellerman have shown the world that KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa and Africa are indeed a musical force to be reckoned with globally.

“We cannot thank them enough for reviving faith and hope for many aspiring artists in the province and South Africa as a whole.
“They have indicated to the world that our province and country continues to excel despite facing hurdles,” concluded Premier Dube-Ncube.
The trio follow in the footsteps of other Grammy Awards winners, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Black Coffee.
The prestigious 65th Annual Grammy Awards Ceremony was held in Los Angeles on Sunday.
