Senzo Meyiwa murder case: Family expresses frustration over postponement
By Sihle Mkhize
In a dramatic turn of events, the family of the late South African footballer Senzo Meyiwa has expressed their deep frustration and disappointment following yet another postponement in the long-standing murder case.
The case was on Monday postponed after Judge Tshifiwa Maumela took ill. Nomalanga Meyiwa, Senzo’s sister, has spoken out about the family’s emotional state and their ongoing struggle for justice.
Senzo Meyiwa is a former captain of the South African national football team and goalkeeper for Orlando Pirates.
He was tragically shot and killed during an alleged robbery at the home of his girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo. The incident happened in Vosloorus, Gauteng, on October 26, 2014.
The case has been plagued by delays and a lack of progress. This has left the Meyiwa family in a state of anguish for almost a decade.
Nomalanga Meyiwa shared her frustration during a recent interview, expressing the family’s disappointment with yet another postponement in the murder case.
The delay has further prolonged their quest for justice, intensifying their emotional turmoil.
“Even the people we had trusted that they would speak the truth in court. But now what they are saying is not what we thought they would say.
“As a family we are fast losing any hope of justice,” said Nomalanga Meyiwa in a TV interview on Monday.
“The case has been dragging for so long yet there is nothing concrete that’s come off it.
“Instead we keep getting disappointed as the case is continuously postponed. And the worst part is that we are always the last ones to hear of such.”
The Meyiwa family has been eagerly awaiting progress in the investigation and subsequent prosecution of those responsible for Senzo’s untimely death.
The repeated delays have not only prolonged their grief but have also raised questions about the effectiveness of the legal system and the commitment to resolving high-profile cases.

Nomalanga Meyiwa further emphasised that the family’s frustration stems from the fact that they continue to be left in the dark regarding the details and developments of the case.
They long for transparency and a sense of closure, as they struggle to come to terms with their devastating loss.
The South African public has also expressed their solidarity with the Meyiwa family. They have been calling for swift action and justice to be served.
