Glencore Coal keeps up promise to help grow footballers in eMalahleni

In 2022, Glencore Coal announced its partnership with the Community Football
(Commfoot) Programme, SAFA Nkangala Region and the eMalahleni Local Football Association (LFA).

This was to help support young, local soccer players from communities around eMalahleni.

The programme is aimed at ensuring that every local player and coach receives the training, mentorship and resources they need to reap all the benefits provided by the sport.

To continue with its promise, Glencore hosted the official handover of the soccer jerseys to the 86 U/19
male and female teams from Phola, Kriel, and Witbank.

Glencore’s Community Development Superintendent, Busisiwe Madalane – Radebe, said that part of
their task is to ensure that youth development is promoted through activities such as sports, arts, and
culture.

“Over the years we have seen how passionate the youth in this community are about sports and
recreational activities, and this has given us great hope for the future of our youth.

“It is for this reason that Glencore has partnered with SAFA so we can play our part in making sure that each player gets the most out of the experience of participating in sports.

“With this contribution, we are making it clear that we believe in you, and we want you to go far.

“We hope that this is just the beginning of many great things for the players and coaches in this community, and we look forward to a fruitful and long partnership together with our local teams and the local football association” she said.

The vice President of the SAFA Nkangala Region, Linda Zwane, expressed his gratitude to Glencore Coal for
their support.

“The significance of today’s event is to acknowledge the progress of the sponsorship we received from
Glencore, in partnership with the Local Football Association and the Community Football programme.

“One of the key commitments of this programme is also to ensure that our coaches are trained and
licenced in their roles.

“The coaching course that is currently underway is the D License Coaching course, which will ensure that coaches are capacitated to be better coaches.

“This in turn will benefit all the players and give them a greater opportunity to be recognised by our national teams.” he said.

Two of the modules in the Sports Generic course include the ability to Facilitate an Activity and to Plan an
Event.

These modules embody all the administrative elements of coaching.

The importance of these modules is also to ensure that the coaches understand the different administrative requirements and that their teams produce organised and technical football.

In this way, Glencore Coal ensures that every player and every coach has the skills and resources they
need to reach even greater success.
