SIHLE MKHIZE
An interesting Durban derby game between AmaZulu FC and Golden Arrows divided the Durbanites.
Golden Arrows displayed hunger by leading the game on the 14th minute.
Michael Gumede became a temporary hero by scoring his goal from inside the box assisted by Knox Mutizwa pass.
From Gumede’s goal, Golden Arrows were cruising until AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy made substitutions which changed the direction of the game towards the last minutes of the game.
The substitute, Lehlohonolo Majoro equalised in the dying minutes coming from behind as Abafana Bes’thende seemed to be going through the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup.
Thanks to Luvuyo Memela who came from the left wing with a beautiful cross and Majoro didn’t disappoint, side footing the ball into the net.
Frustrated Golden Arrows forward, Ntsako Makhubela found himself in the wrong books of stubborn referee Victor Gomes and was sent off for an early shower.
This after Ntsako recieved a second yellow card.
Five minutes added by referee for extra time pushed Golden Arrows to park the bus as Usuthu kept on knocking on Sifiso Mlungwana’s goals.
The game ended at 1-1, which led to extra time, then the penalty shoot-out.
All selected players from both teams for penalty shootout scored except Danny Phiri who disappointed.
Eventually AmaZulu went through and joined the likes of Maritzburg United and Mamelodi Sundowns in the last 16.
