The Carling Currie Cup semi finals and final dates have been rescheduled. Both semi finals and final are now expected to take place a week later than originally scheduled due to Covid-19 challenges.

SA rugby has confirmed that the Currie Cup play offs dates for both the semi finals and final will now take place a week later.

The purpose of the sudden change, is to ensure the tournament integrity and allow the participants to manage Covid-19. The new dates have been set, the semi finals will take place on the Saturday 23th of January, when the Vodacom Blue Bulls host the Xerox Lions in Pretoria, and the DHL Western Province take on the Cell C Sharks in Cape Town. The final will take place on the Saturday, 30th of January.

“I would like to thank the semi finalist for their co-operation in ensuring that we can see the season play out the way it should, in spite of these challenging times with the champion being crowned in the next few weeks,” said Rassie Erasmus, director of South African Rugby.

If either team does  participate in semi final because of Covid-19 infections, that team will forfeit the match and the opposing team will progress to the final. If neither team is able to compete, the side with the most log points at the conclusion of the pool stage will progress to the final. Again, if the final match gets postponed, an alternative date will be agreed between the teams.
