AmaQhawe to honour Durban township super heroes
By Sihle Mkhize
A new organisation formed by two young women, AmaQhawe, aims to change lives in a different way than seen before.
AmaQhawe Children Youth Men and Women Empowerment (ACYMWE), is a non-profit organisation.
They have organised a ceremony to award certificates of recognition to ordinary citizens from various townships across Durban on Saturday.
The founders of this organisation are Phindile Shozi and Sibusisiwe Mbhele, who are both from Durban.
“We have seen a gap in our communities where you find that someone is working very hard to offer assistance to the less fortunate. But there is no one who gives them recognition.
“That’s why we came up with an idea of recognising people from different townships such as Lovu, kwaNdengezi, kwaMashu and uMlaza,” said Phindile.
The (ACYMWE) awards is scheduled to take place at Norwegian Hall in Musgrave, Durban.
This organisation invited ordinary citizens to nominate individuals they know from their communities and forward their biographies. Then ACYMWE decides if they qualify for an award.
“This also serves as a community social gathering for business owners. It is where they’re going to network during the awards ceremony,” Phindile elaborates.

This is the second awards event of its kind and ACYMWE is going to award at least 50 business owners from different parts of Durban.
This organisation was established in 2018, founders are urging business people to partner with them in future in order to grow this idea.
“We are planning to have voting lines next year as part of our growth strategy,” adds Phindile.
The entrance fee for the awards ceremony is R250 and covers refreshments and entertainment, says Phindile.
Winners will walk away with prizes such as certificates and trophies.
