Vuma FM breakfast show co-host Nombuso Mkhwanazi’s radio dreams became a reality when she least expected it.
Nombuso revealed this seven months after winning the Vuma FM presenter search competition earlier this year.
According to the 35-year-old Durbanite, she tried everything she could in order to crack the industry at a younger age. But she dismally failed, and lost hope.
This spiritual and bubbling presenter ended up leaving Banana City for Mpumalanga province.
Nombuso got a prestigious job serving as a regional manager in one of the co-operative sectors.
“Years later after retrenchment, I returned back home and had no idea what to do regarding my life.
“One of my friends called and informed me about the Vuma FM presenter search competition.
“Honestly, I was not sure about grabbing the opportunity or not. But I ended up recording a demo.
“And fortunately, I got the call from the station. I was among the top ten contestants, most of them had radio experience unlike me.
“Eventually, I was announced as a winner. I started from graveyard shows,” explained Nombuso.
As much as many recognize her work, she portrays herself as a learner who has ambitions to host her own show one day.
“I enjoy co-hosting but I haven’t achieved my goals yet as a presenter,” she revealed.
Nombuso revealed that she does not have any children yet but she is eyeing to have her own family one day.

“I am a family person, but no rush because there is a lot on my plate right now,” she says.
On the issue of Gender Based Violence (GBV) around the country she raised a point of mental health awareness. She said it is important to the men.
As everyone is excited about new released music and possible Song of the Year Nombuso tipped K.O with his song Sete.
