Mzansi in shock again as another Hip-Hop icon dies
The news of DJ Dimples broke on Sunday afternoon, just a few days after that of Riky Rick, writes Aphe Gcwabe
Another local Hip-Hop icon has fallen. DJ Dimples, whose real name is Tumi Mooi has passed on, close friends have confirmed.
The family are expected to release an official statement on the death later on Sunday. It is however unclear what the course of death.
It has however emerged that he had some health issues after a show he was involved in on Saturday evening.
The news of his death broke on Sunday afternoon. Various celebrities and fans took to social media to voice their shock.
Media personality Bonang Matheba tweeted: “Oh Tumi… such a sweet, sweet soul.”

Gift Makhompeyane also tweeted regarding this shocking news: “Dj Dimples and Ricky were the glue that held Mzansi Hip-Hop together. I thought this was supposed to be the year of Hip-Hop.”
Dimples made his name with a number of hit songs including We Ain’t Leaving, on which he featured Anatii and L-Tido.
He also had Way Up featuring Cassper Nyovest and JR. He released the album Kubu, in 2019.
The DJ’s last Instagram post is a snap of him at late rapper Riky Rick’s memorial service on Friday.
Tributes flooded the social media TL as many expressed their shock and disbelief at the DJ’s death.
Mzansi is still mourning after Rick Ricky committed suicide two weeks ago. Riky’s death came a few days after that of DJ City Lyts who was gunned down in Soweto.
