Joey Ndlovu has outed himself as the man who is currently trending on social media following his proposal during the Comrades Marathon on Sunday morning.
He says his fiancée has said yes to his strange yet romantic proposal. Joey held out a placard with the words ‘Prudence will you marry me?’ while he was running the 89km race.
Speaking to 702’s Bongani Bingwa on Monday morning, Joey says he has promised Prudence that he would propose but she had no idea where and how.
It must have been a pleasant surprise for Prudence when she watched TV to support her man who was running his seventh Comrades when she saw him hold up the proposal.
“I have a long story to tell,” said Joey. “I have run seven Comrades races now. This was my seventh. In 2012, my late wife passed on on the same day as I proposed – August 28.
“May her soul rest in peace. I had to make my mind on whether to continue grieving her loss or to continue with life,” explained Joey.
“And the dear Lord came into me and told me, ‘Joey, it is time to move on now’. And there was this wonderful lady Prudence who I had been eyeing for a while.

“We go to the same church, we are both Catholic. What happened was I said to her, ‘Prudence’. And she still called me Uncle Joey then but I don’t know why because there is not much age difference between us.
“Everyone calls me Uncle Joey, maybe it is because of the way I am, of the respect that I have for everyone.
“I was ecstatic when she said yes, we had only been together for four months. After the prayers and doing all the (church) rituals…
“I said to her I was going to propose but she didn’t know how and where,” said Joey. He could reveal more details about when they would get married.
