DA calls on Sihle Zikalala to step down amid Ngizwe assault allegations

A case of assault has been opened against KwaZulu-Natal premier Sihle Zikalala by former Ukhozi FM presenter Ngizwe Mchunu.
This comes after an alleged attack on Mchunu by Zikalala at Moses Mabhida stadium on Saturday. They were both attending the Ingoma kaZwelonke Maskandi festival at the world famous venue.
A source informed The Purpose that Zikalala was at VVIP when an exchange of words between him and Mchunu ensued.
Zikalala then punched Mchunu and the premier’s contingent quickly came between the two trying to separate before exchanging more blows.
“The premier was extremely angry and he couldn’t control his temper. We remember Mchunu used to insult politicians including Zikalala on his “state of the nation addresses”.
Zikalala is a human being as well and he has feelings,” the source said. Mchunu is alleged to have called Zikalala a tokoloshe in one of his talks.
Mchunu sent message to one of his associates saying Zikalala had called him aside and that is when the assault happened.

“Ungibizile nje wavele wangishaya ngesibhakela (he called me and then suddenly punched me),” Mchunu written.
It’s not the first time Zikalala facing the simillar allegations. Last year he was caught live on television assaulting a young boy during the July unrest and looting in the province.
One of the opposition parties in KZN has strongly condemned Zikalala’s behaviour and called for him to resign as the premier.
“The DA is disappointed to hear such allegations labelled against premier as we remember another incident where he assaulted a young boy during July unrest last year.
“We have a violent society and we witness brutal killings in our country everyday, we cannot have leaders who promote violence…
“Or paint a picture that violence is a way to resolve conflicts. The premier must do honorable thing by resigning if this latest allegation is true.
“We can’t have a premier who fails to control a temper and assaults citizens instead of protecting them,” said the DA’s chief whip in the provincial legislature Zwakele Mncwango.
A message said to be from the Durban Central Police station to Mchunu has been making rounds on social media. It is believed he has opened a case of assault.
