Ismond High School’s 2020 matric learner Silindelo Sithole is among the millions of youngsters in the country who are eagerly waiting for their matric results to come out on Tuesday so they can begin the next phase of their lives.

But the 18-year-old young man from the humble grounds of Mid-Illovo near Eston in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands, fears that a recent injury in his leg may stand on his way, and stop him from pershing his dreams.

He told this magazine that he sustained a leg fracture in December when he was playing social football with his friends.

“My leg is currently wrapped up in plaster cast. It will be very difficult for me to stand in the queues at university because I’m limping. However, I have no intention of taking a gap year. I just hope that God and my faith will carry me through,” said Silindelo.

He revealed that he initially wanted to enroll for a degree in agriculture at one of the universities in the province.

“My application was rejected by one of the universities because I submitted it late. I ended up applying for the bachelor of education. For now, that is what I’m going to settle for. As soon as I get my BEd degree, I will continue pursuing a career in farming.”

“I come from a family that loves crop farming so I have a great passion for it,” he said.

Slindelo added that although he never wanted to predict his result, he has no doubt that everything will go well.

“Last year I did very well throughout the year. I’ve been doing seven subjects,” he said.

After getting his results, Slindelo told The Purpose: “I am gratefully that eventually I made it. I am definitely going to further my studies at university. The conditions were not good becuae I stay with grandparents. My mom is based in Tshwane,” concluded Slindelo.
