Sexual harassment case caught my attention

Skeem Saam is onto something with their sexual abuse and cyber bullying storyline.

I was just fiddling with the remote control and hoping to watch abroad content then I found my eyes glued on Skeem Saam.

I thought why not, and what actually caught my attention is the sexual harassment case that was opened against Nimza by Pretty. Sex sells.

Pretty laid a complaint to the university and the police which led to Nimza’s arrest and he missed one of his examinations. She was confronted by one of her peers for trying to ruin Nimza’s future, which made Pretty drop the charges.

The case remained in the university and they have to attend a hearing which is still in process until the verdict is decided. While undergoing that, Pretty is now being bullied and everyone is mocking her.

These horrible remarks that were made about her in the university and online about false accusations she made against Nimza, led her into laying a bullying case on top of the sexual harassment case.

Nimza posted a letter online pleading to people to support him in his case. By doing that, he jeopardised his case since Pretty is now being bullied even more. The worse part is that he is making people go against Pretty. Nimza and his mother are also tampering with the evidence.

What made me fall in love with Skeem Saam again is the fact that they are opening our eyes to the things that are happening to women on a daily basis which are not taken seriously enough.  Most of us as women, our minds are programmed to think sexual harassment is being raped not considering being touched inappropriately or when someone says something offensive is also sexual harassment.

I would encourage women, especially the younger ones to not miss this because there is a lot they can learn about standing up for themselves against any form of abuse. We all know that women abuse has been a problem in this country and I believe we can beat it if we guide the next generation towards the right path. Let’s stay glued to our screens for the verdict and more on weekdays 18:30 on SABC 1 channel 191 on Dstv.
