Nuz Vegas – Durban’s new attraction
KGOMOTSO BUTHELEZI
Ethekwini has long been dubbed the Las Vegas of South Africa, this status has proven to be even more applicable in the South of Durban in Umlazi to be precise. This township has illustrated that it is a cultural melting pot rich with township traditions that transport a visitor to another world all together. Ask any Durban tourist you meet if a trip to Durban is complete without a visit to eMlazi. The answer would definitely be no.
Keeping to this tradition it is only befitting that a place called Nuz Vegas exists. Located in the P section in uMlazi vistors looking for an authentic kasi experience will not be disappointed. The past Sunday was lit with DJ Tukzin on the 1’s and 2’s. Young, up coming, local DJ’s took to the stage as they were given the chance to showcase their talent in the build up to Tukzin’s set.
They made sure that they gave DJ Tukzin a run for his money. All genres were catered for, from kwaito to commercial house, deep house, amapiano, hip-hop, etc. The ladies were on fleek and the gentlemen were dressed to the nines. It was an epic party hosted by Nuz Vegas in partnership with 101.2 Intokozo FM right on the day when the president of the country announced that South Africa is officially on level one of the Covid-19 lockdown.
Nuz Vegas is under the new management of Mr. Mhlongo who acquired it in 2020. When asked what his plans where for this establishment he said, “ I want to show young people out there that it doesn’t matter what your background looks like, you can be successful as long as you are focused.
“I come from a very poor background and I worked my way up from being a security guard, to becoming a body guard and today I am an owner of one of the trendiest entertainment spots in uMlazi. I will ensure that I give back to my community by working with schools around my area to ensure that children in my area have the necessities they need to get an education because that’s all I needed when I was a child.”
